Take a bus (30 minutes).
Do NOT take a cab. The Turkish cabs specialize in ripping off people, esp. tourists.
They ignore the rate, charge special tourist prices (ehem) or claim the meter is not working. They also take the wrong route.
Complete sham and rip off… be on guard if the can takes a circular route
You can take tram from the airport and go to the main bus station by that way which will cost you something like 2 USD. You can get help from information dest at the airport. there..u ll be able to find bus to izmir
re-arrange your ticket directly to Izmir.
this way you’ll spare yourself from a troubling 9 hours of bus trip
As already sugested, fly to Izmir. See if you can get a flight on Onur Air, Pegasus or Atlas. They have a variety of flight times. Check with a travel agent. You will be more comfortable; you’ll save 8 hours of travel time, and you won’t be faced with the confusion at the otogar. You will however have to take a bus (costs about 7 lira) or taxi (35 to 42 lira) to Izmir proper from the Izmir airport.
There you may find tickets. Also the company has offices very close to the airport, and also does not oblige you go to the bus station. You may email them to learn more.
