What I generally do is visit Traveline, find out the routes and the bus companies, then I have to try to ring the bus company (which costs money) and ask them about the fares of a particular route. Often they either can’t help or take a while to find the answer, or are not sure.

The only reliable way is to ask the bus driver, but that defeats the purpose if you’re trying to plan a trip!
